Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is also an accomplished public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a website that hosts videos and commentaries on the representation of female characters in popular media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she works to highlight issues related to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of the Internet space. A graduate in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a young age. When she graduated in 2009, in university she started the Feminist Frequency web site. A woman with ambitions to start a web-series examining the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve to be a feminist media critic. She has won many awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit which studies the portrayals of women in pop cultural and the narratives that surround them.
